We know how frustrating it can be when you’re busy and suddenly your toilet becomes clogged and you need a quick fix! The go-to solution when you need to unclog a toilet is grabbing that plunger and getting the job done. But how many of us actually have a plunger lying around home!? We can help you with some tips and tricks on ways you can unclog your toilet quickly and without making a big mess in your bathroom!
If you’re trying to flush a lot of waste down the toilet and it just won’t go down, combining hot water, baking soda and vinegar can do the trick! Put the kettle on and start boiling that water. Let the water cool whilst preparing the baking soda and vinegar. Pour a cup of baking soda and two cups of vinegar into the toilet. You might hear some fizzing which is a good sign! Start pouring the hot water into the toilet and let the mixture settle overnight. The water should drain the next day. If it doesn’t, that’s a sign to call your local plumber. Give us a call on 03 9909 5307 and we’ll unclog your toilet for you!
The good old coat hanger comes out to play again! Straighten out your wired coat hanger and wrap the end of it with fabric tightly so it doesn’t damage your toilet. Stick the wire down the toilet and into the drain. Twist and turn it until you can feel the obstruction. Once you feel this, start pushing against it to free it. The water should begin to drain. Flush the toilet and it all should flow like usual. If there is no obstruction, there may be a bigger problem and you may need to call your local plumber!
Another little trick that could work to unclog your toilet! Head to the kitchen and grab some dishwashing detergent. Be generous and squeeze about a cup's worth into the toilet bowl. Let this sit for about 10 minutes so it can move down the toilet and reach the part that’s clogged. Grab some lukewarm water and pour it into the toilet. Let this sit for another 15 minutes. Everything should start freeing up and the toilet should start draining again.
Caution! You can’t use a normal vacuum here. It specifically needs to be a wet/dry vacuum for this attempt to unclog your toilet. You want to use this to first suck all the water out. You then want to stick the vacuum down the toilet drain and turn it on to hopefully suck up the clog. This one can get a little dirty so make sure you’re wearing gloves!
